Irish Companies is a fourth generation, locally-owned, family business that began serving Upstate New York in 1932 when Ralph Irish founded the R.N Irish Coal Company. Following World War II, the shift from coal to natural gas for home heat made Bob Irish, Ralph’s youngest son, look for new avenues of growth. Bob began with industrial gases and welding supplies in 1953. He later added propane to the product line. Bob was ahead of his time when he encouraged businesses to go green by converting their forklifts to propane, a cleaner burning fuel. Dry ice, carbon dioxide and fountain syrups for restaurants were added to the company’s line up in the 1960’s. Irish Companies introduced the Keep-Fill bulk CO2 delivery system for restaurants to our region in 1976. Our company has continued to evolve over time and is now a certified, woman-owned business.
