LCEA Scholarships

The Livingston County Education Alliance (LCEA), the foundation arm of the Livingston County Area Chamber of Commerce, announces this years’ recipients of its annual scholarship program.  The Scholarship Committee, comprised of leaders from across the county, worked diligently to select four exemplary students from an incredibly talented and deserving pool of applicants.  We congratulate:

Aariana Arnold

Avon High School and Genesee Valley BOCES Criminal Justice Program
Attending Elim Bible College, field of student is the Launch Program with a career goal of becoming an Environmental Conservation Officer

A High Honor Roll student and inducted member of both the National Honor Society (NHS) and National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), Aariana is dually enrolled at Avon Central School District and GV BOCES. She is actively involved in drama, art, Library Advisory, and Avant Garde through Avon and has competed in SkillsUSA while also participating in the Livingston County Teen Cadet Program through GV BOCES.

Aariana’s presentation to the scholarship committee showcased her poise, preparation, and thoughtful planning. She spoke eloquently and entirely from memory, fielding questions with exceptional composure and providing well-considered responses. Kimberly Miron, educator and Assistant Director of the Drama Club, describes Aariana as extremely hardworking, friendly, and respectful. She shares that Aariana consistently goes above and beyond with a positive attitude and a smile on her face.

It is evident to all who interact with her that Aariana’s wide range of interests, strong work ethic, and positive outlook will enable her to achieve her goals while making the world a better place in the process. She is inspirational.

Scotty Bowman Junior

Caledonia-Mumford High School
Attending Saint Bonaventure University, studying Marketing

This remarkable young man shared in his application essay that, “Being part of a small community gave me the chance to be involved, to be recognized, and to understand how much it means to become the positive impact I wish to see in the world.” His involvement in Spanish Club, service as a class officer, student council ambassador, and numerous other activities has given him an exceptionally well-rounded perspective.

Assistant Principal Tim McArdle describes Scotty as the definition of an “all-around student-athlete.” He shares that Scotty can be found on the court, on the track, and in the classroom always giving his best effort. Tim also highlights Scotty’s commitment to leadership, mentorship, and his consistent support of fellow students.

In addition to his many school commitments, Scotty has been employed at the Caledonia Village Inn for the past three years, demonstrating responsibility, dedication, and a strong work ethic. His willingness to embrace opportunities, rise to challenges, and step outside of his comfort zone has made him an integral part of the Cal-Mum community and positioned him well for future success.

Tessa Rodwell

York High School  
Attending Iowa State University, studying Agricultural Engineering

Tessa is an exceptional student, maintaining a 4.0 average while excelling both academically and athletically. She serves as captain of both the Varsity Basketball and Varsity Track teams, earning awards and demonstrating strong leadership among her peers. Her involvement extends beyond athletics through her roles as a class officer, National Honor Society member, Future Farmers of America (FFA) member, and dedicated volunteer in numerous community activities.

This enterprising young woman has demonstrated an impressive work ethic from an early age. Since 2015, she has worked independently in lawn care and as a household assistant. Since 2020, she has operated Aw Shucks, her own corn stand business, and since 2022, she has also worked at Moonies Two Scoops in Leicester — continuing all three roles today.

Growing up surrounded by farm life, Tessa has developed a deep appreciation for hard work, responsibility, and community. Her participation in 4-H, FFA, Farm Bureau, and with local farmers has provided her with a wealth of mentors who have helped shape her character and goals. Michael Barrett, her Technology Teacher, shares that “she approaches every challenge with determination and integrity, consistently setting a positive example for her peers.”

Tessa embodies the qualities of a well-rounded, driven, and compassionate young woman. She will continue to excel in all she pursues.

Sarkis M

Sarkis Matossian

Gilead School of Discipleship
Attending Houghton University, studying Computer Science

Sarkis is a young man who embodies passion, a pursuit of excellence, personal growth, and a deep commitment to community service. Over the past several years, he has worked diligently toward achieving the rank of Eagle Scout while also actively supporting fellow scouts in reaching the same goal. His dedication to service is further reflected in the more than 150 hours of community service he has completed through his school, including mentoring youth, participating in mission trips, and engaging in community outreach efforts.

During his presentation to the scholarship committee, Sarkis focused on the hardware knowledge and technical skills he gained through his GV BOCES program. He impressed the committee with his careful preparation, confident understanding of the subject matter, and his ability to engage comfortably with a room full of adults he had not previously met.

Principal and Assistant Pastor Justin Perry speaks highly of Sarkis, noting his consistent demonstration of integrity, intellectual curiosity, and meaningful contributions to classroom discussions. Sarkis is also deeply committed to personal development. He shared with the committee how reading a well-known book on productivity and stress management positively transformed his outlook and habits.

It is clear that Sarkis is not only driven to achieve his own goals, but also committed to creating meaningful and lasting change in the lives of others.
